Attention Families: Return to School

Dear Families:

I hope you are enjoying the summer!  We are planning for a full reopening of schools this September and are expecting our plan will be much the same as it was in May/June 2021.  We are currently preparing our buildings for five days a week, in-person teaching and learning for all students. With that said, school districts are still waiting for updated reopening guidance from the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) and the New York State Education Department (NYSED).

We are not anticipating offering a 100% remote option for students next school year.

However, we recognize that returning to full-time in-person learning could pose challenges for students who have a documented medical condition that may impact their ability to attend school, such as a condition that causes a weakened immune system.  To prepare for this possibility, we are considering a partnership with regional BOCES locations to provide a 100% remote learning option.  Students enrolled in this remote school setting would be taught by qualified and certified BOCES teachers with other students from the area who also require this special accommodation. In order for BOCES to have the appropriate staff in place for September, they need to know how many students may be eligible for this option.

If your child has been diagnosed by a physician with a documented medical condition, and you are interested in enrolling your child in this remote learning option, please contact your child’s building Principal no later than Wednesday, August 11, 2021.

Please note that a written diagnosis of the condition, a physician’s note and contact information for that physician will be required.

After we receive updated guidance from the state and understand its implications for reopening schools this fall, we will communicate with all of you.  August is likely to pass by quickly, please enjoy your time with your families and know that I will contact you again as soon as I have the necessary guidance from NYS.

As always, thank you for your continued support and cooperation!
