Colden Elementary Celebrates PARP

In March, Colden Elementary celebrated Pick A Reading Partner (PARP), which is a statewide PTA program.  This initiative was created to help foster a love for reading as children read with their families for 15 minutes a day.  This year’s theme, ‘Reading Takes You Out of This World’, had a STAR WARS twist that captured the interest of young and old alike.  School activities included a kick-off assembly featuring a skit performed by the Colden Elementary faculty and staff, book swaps in the classrooms, a school-wide silent reading time in the hallways, playing BINGO to win books, and a weekly raffle drawing for students who read for 15 minutes each day with a partner at home.  In addition, Students had many opportunities to dress up by celebrating Dr. Seuss’s birthday, ‘spotting’ a good book with polka dots, and snuggling up with a book in their pajamas.  Mr. Patrick Burke, Author and 7th District Erie County Legislator, visited Colden Elementary to share his recent book, The Year Winter Skipped Buffalo.  Assemblyman David DiPietro read to two classrooms during his visit at Colden Elementary.  Thank you to all the families who participated, and thank you to all the families who continue to read with their child!
