This past weekend the Springville cross country team competed at the JFK invitational. The girls team was led by Elle Russell and a Sonya Krezmien who finished 5th and 7th. Out of the 20 schools at the invitational, the girls finished 6th place. Gwen Fruehauf, Corrin Sacilowski and Evelyn Smith raced well to help earn the teams place. A few days later the girls team was ranked 8th in large schools by Buffalo News in a coach’s poll. This is impressive considering Springville has entered the large school division this year and is racing against the largest of the large schools.
The boys team is looking very strong and is led by a young group of sophomores and a freshman. Sophomores Brett Russell, Zack Peterman and Nate Myers finished first for the guys. They were followed closely by freshman and new comer to the team Mikey Evans. Elliot Emyle and Luke Waterman, also sophomores, completed the scoring for the guys to take 8th place overall. This very young crew is only going to be strengthened when seniors Nick Abdo and Jarod Reese are healthy and ready to join the racing this weekend at Bemus Point in another invitational.
