Lady Griffs Update

The Varsity girls basketball team scored a big 56-24 win over Cleve Hill on Friday night. The girls were scorching to start the game as they led off with a 13-0 run.   That quick run saw Kenz Owens bury two three pointers and dish out three assists.  Despite the quick start Cleve Hill made it a competitive game by halftime as the Griff’s were only up by 10 points.  The ladies stormed out of the locker room behind some strong finishes by Kelsey Zabawa and the steady jump shot of Ivette Lewandowski.  Once again though the defense was keyed by Senior captain Grace Zabawa.  Time and time again she’s been called upon to stop the opposing teams’ best player and she never disappoints. Bella Oakley was a force on the glass and defensively as she altered many shots in the paint.  Nyah Solly came in and gave great minutes as did Rachel O’Neal.  Both girls were tenacious on defense and were hustling allover the court.  Scoring on the night included: Owens-17, G. Zabawa- 9, Rehrauer-4, Attebery- 4, K. Zabawa- 10, and I. Lewandowski with 12 points.

The girls are now 8-1 overall and are tied for first place against division rival Eden.  The team clashes with the Red Raiders tonight at Eden.  Please come out and cheer this team on as they battle for sole possession of first place in ECIC!

On Friday the Girls JV basketball team evened their record at 4-4 with a 42-19 win over Cleve Hill.  Halley Hayden led the Griffs with 13 points followed by Marie Emerling with 12 points and Melanie Barry with 11 points. Sarah O’Neal added strong contributions by leading the offense with 8 assists.
