In the fall of 2008, a young nine-year-old boy dove into the pool for his first time competitively and never looked back. It has been 9 years since then and Nolan West is still leaving competitors in his wake. Starting on the Varsity Swim Team as a 7th Grader and through hard work and dedication, Nolan was able to earn an alternate spot for relays in his 8th grade year at Sectionals. The following year, Nolan was a freshman and now was a part of the Springville Relays that were representing The Griffins at the Sectional Meet.
Continuously working and improving by swimming year round, Nolan has climbed the individual rankings from 14th in the 200 Freestyle his sophomore year to 9th his senior year in Section 6 (Western New York).
Also in the 100 Backstroke Nolan is now ranked 9th in Section 6.
In the 50 freestyle Nolan is now ranked 7th in all of Section 6.
Lastly Nolan’s marquee event, the 100 Freestyle Nolan has gone from 12th in 2016 to 3rd place in 2017, for all of Western New York and will now be representing Springville at the State Meet in Long Island as the first swimmer to go for the Griffins since 1996.
Along with ranking in the top 10 in multiple events for all of Western New York, Nolan has set numerous school and pool records for SGI along the way. Nolan now holds the records for the 100 yard Backstroke for the school, the 100 yard Freestyle pool record, and is also a part of the school record setting relays for the 200 Freestyle Relay (2015), 200 Medley Relay(2015), and the 400 Free Relay(2016).
Nolan plans on continuing his swimming career after High School but his decision is yet to be made as to where.
