Springville Boys Basketball Wins Emerling Tournament

The Holiday Season was great for the Springville Boys Basketball team as they won the Emerling Tournament against neighboring North Collins.  Prior to this, the Griffins started the season 0-3 against all division teams including Pioneer, Lakeshore, and Cheektowaga.  However, their winning ways began with a victory over division rival East Aurora on Dec. 22nd, with a score of 58-47.  Leading the way for the Griffins was junior point guard Mason Goodridge.  He totaled 23 points along with 3 assists and 5 rebounds.  Following Mason was Adam Pruitt, with 20 points and 6 rebounds, and Tyler Kostelny with 11 points and 4 assists.  The team played very well against East Aurora both offensively and defensively. The team came out aggressive attacking the bucket every chance we had, and putting a lot of pressure on EA.

Following the impressive division win over EA, the Griffins entered their home tournament with a record of 1-3.  In the first game against Cattaraugus-Little Valley, Springville had one of their best TEAM performances.  They had contributions from most of our players and that helped as we won, 66-50 over Catt LV.  Leading the way was Goodridge with 21 points, followed by Kostelny with 17 points.   Again the team succeeded on both ends of the court, especially with strong defensive play by Matt Sion, Austin Lux, and Alex Francisco.  Other scorers included Pruitt with 9, Mike Place and Tyler Attebery both with 5, and Zach Parker with 4.

In the second game of the Emerling Tournament, the Griffins took on North Collins, and came out on top, 53-42.  Leading the way for the Griffins was Goodridge with an impressive 32-point night.  Along with strong play by Pruitt who had 10 points and 6 rebounds, and Kostelny with 6 points, before getting injured and leaving the game.  The Griffs were able to keep a strong lead throughout the game and came out on top.  Again, this win was a team effort and all players had a role in the win.  The team played extremely well even when faced with many challenges.  Tournament players from Springville included Adam Pruitt and MVP of the tournament was Mason Goodridge.

The team opens up 2018 with an away game to Starpoint on Tuesday January 2nd.  Following this, the team will have a home stretch of 5 games through the first half of January.
