Swim Team Class C Championship

Last week the girls varsity swim team competed in their Class C championship meet.  The format of this meet is 3 days long.

On Wednesday, Shannon O’Hara, Samantha Zifra, and Alyssa Greaves competed their Class dive meet in Olean.  All 3 ladies received their personal best scores.  Alyssa took 4th place overall in our Class C section with a 381.45. (in picture), Shannon O’Hara got a 380.45 (5th place), and Samantha Zifra 372.80 (7th place).  All 3 SGI divers will be competing this week at Sectionals in Maryvale.

On Thursday, the swimmers had their prelims in Olean.  We had 13 swimmers travel to Olean for this event.  (picture)   Front row: Shannon O’Hara, Emily Schlemmer, Carley Delaney, Hannah Bergner, Lilia Dinse, Samantha Yetter, and Julia Uhteg.  Back row: Samantha Zifra, Lauren Ditchey, Elle Holland, Anna Lawton, Sadie Olrogg, and Alyssa Greaves.  At this meet Sadie Ologg and Emily Schlemmer got their best times in the individual events.  In addition, Elle Holland qualified for the state meet for the 3rd consecutive year in the 100 backstroke.

All swimmers returned back Friday for finals, however this meet took place at ECC Bert Flickenger pool.  What an exciting meet this was!!!  First highlight was that SGI took 3rd place overall in Class C schools. (Last season we took 5th).  Sadie Olrogg got another best time in her 100 fly and Samantha Zifra swam her best 100 breaststroke time.  Lauren Ditchey swam her personal best 100 back time and qualified for Sectionals in this race with a 1:06.40.  This is Lauren’s first year qualifying for sectionals in an individual event J  Elle Holland swam her 100 free and 100 back and made State cut times for both events, re-breaking her own school record in the 100 back with a 1:00.06. Carley Delaney has worked so hard this year and is so close to breaking the longest record on the board, 100 breast.  (1998).  She is only a Sophomore and has many more chances to take that record.  Her 100 breast swim this night gave her a 2nd place finish in our Class!   Finally, ending the night with a huge smile…The 400 free relay of Hannah Bergner, Anna Lawton, Lauren Ditchey, and Elle Holland broke the 2009 school record with a time of 3:56.66. (in picture).  They also received a 4th place finish for this relay.  Congratulations girls on a successful Class meet.  Next is Sectionals!
