Swim Team Update

The girls varsity swim team is still going strong with a 5-0 record, defeating Tonawanda last night 64-38.  Shannon O’Hara is currently ranked 5th in our section for 6 dives and received her personal best score (234.90) at yesterday’s meets against Tonawanda.  Shannon has also stepped up to fill a void in our lineup with the 100 and 50 fly.  Although she isn’t the fastest on our team in those events, her time helps spread our line up around and gives us points.  Hannah Bergner and Emily Schlemmer have been working hard in practices to drop times in their events.

Julia Uhteg and Riley Ballantyne have played a significant role on this team this year.  Julia has improved tremendously and brings not only her strength, but her personal drive and work ethic.  This is taking her places this year as she has already qualified for ECIC’s in some events.  Riley Ballantyne falls in the same category and has stepped up as the teams backstroker this year.  Abigail Blake is a whole new swimmer this year.  Her work ethic and attitude has drastically changed and she is more confident in her swims, making her stronger and stronger each swim.  Our middle school girls are a key part of this team, and the future of this team.

Gabby Cerasani and Haley Hughes started off swimming the 50 back in the medley relay to start the momentum of the meet.  Cerasani’s relay took 1st place.  Lily Gavin took 25 seconds off her 200 free time.  Taylor Casey took time off her 50 free time and 100 breast time.  Danika Westbrook took over 2 seconds off both her 100 fly and 100 breast times.  Cora Cudney and Riley Gilcrist both took time off their 100 free and 100 back times.  Ella Ploetz and Taylor Casey dropped time in their 100 breast times.  McKenna Illig swam back to back events and swam all of them very well. Maggie Parish who is from West Valley dropped over 5 seconds in her 100 back and is just a pleasure to work with.  This entire team should be proud of all their individual accomplishments as well as our teams 5-0 record.  Next week Friday we face our toughest rival, Eden.  It’s going to be tough but if these girls want it, they can win it!
