The Springville-Griffith Institute Central School District is pleased to announce that Katherine Townsend has been named the Director of Special Education. Mrs. Townsend has been an administrator with the District since 2007 and most recently served as Principal for Special Programs and was the interim Director of Special Education for parts of the 2018-19 school year.
Mrs. Townsend joined the District in 2007, as Assistant Principal and later Principal of the Middle School. She became the Principal at Colden Elementary in 2011 before moving to Principal for Special Programs in 2016. As Principal for Special Programs, Townsend oversaw a variety of programs including the K-12 RtI/AIS program, universal pre-kindergarten, and home/school tutoring for students on medical leave, I-Ready, Safety and Wellness Committees and grant writing.
“Kathy brings a wealth of administrative experience, a willingness to study and to learn, and an ability to ‘get the job done’ when it comes to the endless details and complexities of the Special Education realm,” said Superintendent Kimberly Moritz in regards to the appointment of Mrs. Townsend to her new role.
