Varsity Girls Tennis Finishes Regular Season with Win

The varsity girls tennis team completed their regular season on Monday by defeating a scrappy Eden team 3-2. Winning the first point on the day was Haylee Cerrone. She won her match 6-1, 6-4. Cerrone played a clean game and kept her opponent on the ropes for the entirety of the match. Winning point number 2 was Maria Rumfola by a score of 6-0, 6-2. Maria once again displayed her precision from the baseline and strong overall play to deliver the win. Winning the decisive third point of the match was the first doubles tandem of Ava Dziak and Grace Terhune  by a score of 4-6, 6-0, and 6-0. The girls rebounded from a rough first set and never looked back as they dominated their court and endured some possession of second place for the Lady Griff’s. In second doubles action Layla Gartler and Elle Schosek lost 3-6, 1-6. The girls just couldn’t find their consistency for the duration of the match, regardless of the outcome both girls have improved tremendously over the course of the season. In first singles action Lily Vanuga dropped a hard fought match 6-7, 2-6. Lily was battling throughout both sets but couldn’t quite pull off the comeback win.
As stated above, the team finished in second place with a 10-4 overall record. On Friday, Springville is sending three players to compete in the prestigious ECIC Tournament at Miller Tennis Center. Lily Vanuga is representing Springville in first singles action while Maria Rumfola and Haylee Cerrone play in doubles competition.
