Varsity Girls Tennis – Team Championships

The Varsity girls tennis team hit the road to Clarence High School for the Team Championships and turned in an impressive 5th place finish. It was an very solid showing seeing the team was short handed (down first singles player Hannah Yetter) and playing large schools including: Lew-port, Starpoint, Ken East, Lake Shore, Clarence, Williamsville North, and North Tonawanda.

1st doubles team Caleigh Trzcinski and Maddie Safford played the toughest draw out of any team and came away with a admirable performance winning 1 match and battling close games in other matches. In second doubles action Haylee Cerrone and Maria Rumfola took three matches and displayed a lot of potential heading into ECIC’s on Friday. In third doubles action Rachel O’Neal and Anna Franklin won four matches and played excellent tennis throughout the afternoon. Rounding out the line-up were Shelby Buckley and Grace Terhune. That tandem won three matches and played exceptionally well together.

It was a great day overall for the Lady Griff’s and the group is hoping to finish strong as Caleigh Trzcinski represents SGI in singles competition and Maria Rumfola/Haylee Cerrone represent the school in doubles competition during the ECIC tournament which is held this Friday. The team still has one match remaining against Alden on Monday afternoon at home at 5:00pm.
