The girls varsity swimming and diving team is currently 2-0. Last week was our opening week and we defeated Holland and Cleveland Hill. Springvilles’ team is led by captains Julia Uhteg and Riley Ballantyne, both are juniors. We have a young squad that has been building for the past few years together. A HUGE shout out THANK YOU to our SWAT program that feeds our varsity program of athletes in grades 7th-12th!! Our team this season consists of 25 athletes. Our newest 7th grade members; Kiersten Crone, Kate Regan, Corinne McAndrew, and Brooke Ruzycki have tremendously brought strength and talent to this team and have already become key components of our lineup. Kate Regan is the teams new diver and dove her first varsity meet Friday @ Cleveland Hill. Julia Uhteg has been undefeated in both her 200 free and 500 free swims and has qualified for ECIC’s in both of these events. Gabby Cerasani (Sophomore) is another force in the water swimming both the 200 IM and the 100 Fly and has qualified for ECIC’s in the 200 IM. Erin Baker (8th grader), has finally given this team a 100 backstroke time that is competitive against tougher teams. She went her fastest Friday night with a 1:16.61, qualifying time for ECIC’s. Hannah Blake hit her best 100 breast time and is .72 hundredths of a seconds off ECIC’s with a 1:27.72. Lily Gavin (freshman) is our 50 free sprinter and is a contributor to our relays. Abigail Blake, Taylor Casey, Cora Cudney, Riley Ballantyne, Maggie Parish, Mara Swan-Campanella, Ella Ploetz, and Danika Westbook are also key contributors to our varsity lineup, both individually and in relays. Tonight we swim against Eden which is a strong team in our league. Let’s Go Griffins!!!
