Volleyball Teams Defeat Cheektowaga

Girls Varsity Volleyball kicked off their season with a win against Cheektowaga.  Freshman setter, hitter and star server Ella Wittman led her team to victory in the first set with a score of 25-21.  As the Griffs took the court in game 2, Rachel Stressinger’s middle blocking and solid defense started us off with the lead.  Sophomore setter Marinna Heichberger found Sara Ehlers in the front for 4 kills, and Ivette Lewandowski for 2 kills.  Springville took the second set with a score of 25-20.  Set 3 was a battle.  Jillian Roggie player tough both in offense and defense, and Melanie Barry hit Middle with 1 kill and 2 blocks.  Yet the team dropped set 3 with a score of 20-25.  The Griffs weren’t about to let the match go, and came out on fire in set 4.  Marinna had 4 assists, as Stressinger blocked for 3 points.  Sara Ehlers sealed the deal serving 4 aces in a row, finishing the set 25–14.Great job by all!! Girls play again on Monday at Iroquois.


JV Volleyball had their first game of the season with the Lady Griffs pulling out a three game game win against a tough Cheektowaga team.  Each game the Griff’s outscored the Warriors 25-22, 25-18, and 25-21.  Serving was lead by Sydney Fuller, Kailea Sullivan, and Lauren Frescella.  MacKenzie Ownes lead the team in kills, followed by McKenzie Steff, Alivia Sipes, and Hailey Turner.  Great blocking by Mia Kendall kept the Lady Griffs in each game. Next game is Monday at Iroquois!
