The varsity girls tennis team dropped a hard-fought non-league match against two-time defending Monsignor Martin Champions, Mt. Mercy on Friday night by a score of 3-2.

In first singles action Evelyn Berry won 6-1, 6-2. Evelyn was on fire throughout the contest as she played a patient and disciplined match to get the big win. Evelyn made it a point to apply pressure on her opponent by keeping the ball deep and making her work for everything. It was Evelyn’s most impressive win of the season.

In the second singles action, Natalie Rumfola won 6-3, 6-1. Natalie was at her very best during the contest with her precise ground strokes and smart game-plan which forced her opponent to move all over the court. Natalie has been on fire recently and her progress over the course of the season has been evident.

In first doubles action Taylor Wells and Chloe Dinse-Johnson lost 0-6, 0-6. The girls, which were paired up for the first time all season, drew a tough opponent. Despite the score both girls made some terrific plays and have a lot to build on for their next match.

In second doubles action Lexy Beckwith and Jackie Thompson lost 2-6, 4-6. Once again this was a first time pairing on the season and the girls started to find their groove as the match went on. Both players did a great job of moving on the court and giving 100% effort.

In third doubles action Teerada Dickson and Brooklyn Heim lost 0-6, 0-6. The score was deceiving as the tandem played many games to deuce, it just didn’t go their way for this particular match. Still, it was a valuable experience and one the girls will take with them as we finish the season.

In exhibition action Gianna Nevins and Mackenzie Neff lost 7-9. Both girls had a great night with keeping points alive and staying focused.

The girls are now 5-4 overall, but more importantly, sit atop first place in Division 3 with a perfect 5-0 record. The girls will look to continue their dominance in ECIC3 as they host Lake Shore for a doubleheader tomorrow afternoon.
