On Wednesday evening, the girls varsity swimming and diving team made a splash at the Class C prelims held at City Honors, showcasing impressive talent and determination. This year, 11 swimmers qualified for the meet by achieving honorable cut times, a testament to their hard work and dedication throughout the season. Among the standout performances, Ella Ploetz took 7th place in the 200 Y IM with a time of 2:41.17, demonstrating her competitive edge. Maeve Annunziata also had a strong showing, finishing 8th in the 100 Y Back with a personal best of 1:17.66 and contributing to the team’s overall success. Kiersten Crone made waves in the 50 Y Free, securing 9th place with a time of 27.53, while Aurora Alveal finished 20th in the 100 Y Fly at 1:31.67. Helen Emerling also competed fiercely in the same event, taking 15th place with a time of 1:26.79. Taylor Casey had an impressive night, finishing 11th in the 50 Y Free with a time of 28.25 and placing 10th in the 100 Y Free at 1:01.98. Brooke Ruzycki also contributed to the team’s efforts with a solid swim in the 50 Y Back, clocking in at 34.70. Kendra Cook also dropped time in her 50 free, :27.67 and is seeded 10th going into finals. Kendras 100 breast time at prelims has her sitting in 4th place for finals. Notably, the team celebrated a total of 7 personal best times at the prelims, highlighting the athletes' commitment to improvement and excellence. Maeve Annunziata not only competed in the 100 Y Back but also made a solid effort in the 50 Y Free, finishing 14th with a time of 28.78. Throughout the season, the team has consistently delivered outstanding performances, with several athletes achieving personal bests in various events. Kiersten Crone has shown remarkable improvement, knocking time off her previous marks, while Ella Ploetz has excelled in her IM races. The dedication of these athletes to training and competition has created a culture of excellence within the team. Sophomore Corinne McAndrew, who has already qualified for Sectionals, is sitting 2nd in 500 free and 3rd in 200 free with the talent and determination to win both these competitions Friday night at finals. Sophia Lightcap swam the 200 Y IM and clocked in at 2:55.48, earning 18th place. Clara Sprague earned her way to prelims in the 100 breast and we are so proud of her work ethic and success this season. Each swimmer's effort contributed to a memorable evening, filled with personal achievements and team spirit. As the girls look ahead to Friday for finals, their performance at the Class C prelims serves as a promising indicator of the talent and potential within the team.
